Disabled Veterans Information

These are the sections in the Code pertaining to 100% disabled veterans for 2009 and 2012:

  • The 2009 Legislature created Sec. 11.131 (a) & (b) which granted full exemption to disabled veterans who were 100% disabled.
  • The 2011 Legislature amended Sec. 11.131 to add (c) & (d) which grants the exemption to the disabled veterans surviving spouse.
  • Sec. 11.42 (e) was also added for 2012 which allows veterans who are 100% disabled to apply for the exemption immediately on qualification for the exemption.

The State of Texas also mandates 4 levels of exemption for disabled veteran:

  • 10% to 29% - $ 5,000
  • 30% to 49% - $ 7,500
  • 50% to 69% - $ 10,000
  • 70% and over - $ 12,000*
** Disabled veterans 65 and over with a rating of at least 10% receive the full $12,000.
